About Bunthea KEO

Mr. Bunthea is a public interest law advocate specializing in climate change, renewable energy, mining with a focus on public interest litigation and strategic litigation initiatives. His extensive experience includes collaborations with international bodies, including the UN.

As a SaHassaNet’s Senior Advisor and Partner in Japan , he is leading projects on drafting laws and regulations for the Cambodian government and be a Japan Desk for clients from Japan, particularly in Business set up and legal compliances for investments portfolios. His efforts also involve raising awareness among emerging legal professionals and clients on artificial intelligence and immigration by investments.

Mr. Keo Bunthea is a human rights lawyer in Cambodia, advocating for the protection and promotion of human rights in Cambodia. He is currently working as an independent consultant on a wide range of issues, ranging from access to justice for victims of human trafficking to the protection of community forests and the environment.

Recently, he has worked as a Human Rights Officer for the United Nations/African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur under the human rights section to monitor, report, and document allegations of serious human rights violations and violations of International Humanitarian Law in the context of the ongoing armed conflict in Darfur.

Prior to that, he served as a Senior Legal Advisor to the Cambodian Human Rights Task Force (CHRTF), where he extensively worked in monitoring and fact-finding efforts, and played a key role in designing many monitoring initiatives. He has also worked with a number of other Cambodian human rights organizations, including the Cambodia Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC), the Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, and international organizations such as the International Labor Organization and Intervida World Alliance.

Mr. Bunthea’s work has also taken him outside Cambodia, working for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (OHCHR), the UN/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), and Forum Asia in Thailand.
